What is a B22 bulb?

When shopping to replace and upgrade your current lighting solutions, you may note that bulbs come in a variety of shapes, sizes, light intensities (lumens), and colour temperatures. All of these features must be considered in order to source a bulb that is suited to your needs. In the case of the B22 bulb, the B stands for bayonet (this is the classic push and twist style of bulb cap) and the number denotes the diameter of the light fitting.

This means that where your light fittings require a push and twist style bayonet cap, you must ensure that you pay attention to the diameter of the fitting (in millimetres) in order to purchase the correct sized bulb.

Why choose a B22 bulb?

Whether you are searching for low wattage energy saving bayonet bulbs as a money saving exact replacement to your current lighting solutions, or whether you are looking for a specific colour temperature bulb to deliver either a desired ambiance or a more clinical lighting set up, our wide range of B22 LED bulbs has it all. Check out 2.3W and 2.4W low energy B22 LED bulbs, and browse cool light and warm light colour temperatures.

Frequently asked questions

What fitting does a B22 bulb use?

B22 is a bayonet cap approximately 22mm in diameter, commonly labelled BC. It uses a push-and-twist connection. B15 is the smaller bayonet size, while E27 is a screw cap; these are not interchangeable. Match the fitting code on your old bulb.

Which B22 bulb shape will fit my light?

B22 describes the cap rather than the bulb shape. GLS is the familiar standard bulb shape, while candle and golfball bulbs offer different profiles. Check the product dimensions and available space inside your shade before choosing a replacement.

What wattage B22 LED bulb should I choose?

If you are matching an existing LED bulb, wattage is a useful starting point, but also compare lumens for brightness. Two LEDs with the same wattage can give different amounts of light. When replacing an incandescent or halogen bulb, use the LED manufacturer's stated replacement rating and lumen output rather than choosing the same wattage.

Which light colour should I choose for a B22 bulb?

Compare the Kelvin (K) rating to match your existing lighting. Warm white is typically 2700K–3000K, cool white is commonly 4000K and daylight options are usually 5000K–6500K. Very warm 2000K–2200K lamps give a more amber appearance and can suit decorative lighting. Check lumens separately: light colour does not tell you how bright a bulb is.

Can I use B22 LED bulbs with a dimmer?

Only use bulbs marked dimmable with a wall dimmer, and check the bulb and dimmer manufacturers' compatibility guidance. An older dimmer may not work reliably with LED lamps. Check its supported LED load and number of lamps; choosing a dimmable bulb alone does not guarantee compatibility.

Are B22 bulbs sold individually or in multipacks?

Check the product title, selected option and pack information before ordering. A basket quantity of one means one of the advertised units: for a four-pack, that is four bulbs. Compare both the pack price and the number of bulbs when choosing.
